专业概况
在这里学什么?The journalism major provides a foundation in writing, editing, reporting, research, video, law and ethics. As they prepare and present media content, majors learn to communicate effectively and collaborate on deadline. Majors learn how journalism serves communities with important, independently gathered information that citizens need to function in a free society. The program emphasizes news coverage that goes beyond conflict and controversy to seek stories of faith, hope and solutions to challenges. Classes are small as students work closely with faculty to develop their reporting, writing, design and presentation skills.

Journalism students join a dynamic field of storytellers across all media. This program is grounded in the fundamentals of accurate and ethical fact-gathering and reporting while anticipating emerging technological opportunities.
Journalism Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the journalism program students should be able to:
Knowledge: Explain the role of the free press in a democratic society, apply the principles and laws of free speech, identify the key events history of journalism, and identify the trends of current media, especially in journalism practice. Skills: Conduct relevant research, identify and interview sources for news articles, evaluate source credibility, and present the resulting news stories in a clear and concise fashion using a variety of appropriate words, images and sound. Values: Develop practices to respect stakeholders in the journalistic process and include diverse perspectives. Collaborate respectfully with others to make ethical choices in the production, management, funding and promotion of media messages. Report to audiences the options for hope and viable solutions to problems beyond only the controversies, corruption and problems themselves.

What Can I Do With a Degree in Journalism?
Journalism graduates have a broad liberal arts background as well as special skills in content creation and editing. Careers include online, print and visual, television news reporting, writing, editing and producing. Some graduates manage content and social media for websites, non-profit organizations or speciality blogs. Journalism can also be useful for careers developing websites and apps, public relations, advocacy work, public policy and law.
