专业概况
在这里学什么?The English major at Pepperdine University, with its focus on writing and rhetoric, literary study and criticism, and digital humanities, provides students with facility in the spoken and written word, a keen understanding of the power of language, and a more finely attuned moral and global awareness. Students who major in English possess the creativity and critical thinking skills sought by firms in media, technology, and business.
Emphasis in Education
The education emphasis is designed for students who wish to teach English in middle school or high school. In this integrated program, students work on their BA in English Education and their single subject teaching credential in English simultaneously. Since this is a subject matter-approved program, students do not need to take the CSET.
Emphasis in Literature
The literature emphasis in the English major is includes courses in British, American, and global literature; critical theory, and digital humanities. It is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in teaching high school, to complete a graduate degree in English, to prepare for law school or other professional schools, or to prepare for any career requiring analytical, research, or writing skill.
Emphasis in Writing and Rhetoric
The writing and rhetoric emphasis in the English major prepares students for a career in publishing or other writing-intensive fields as well as law school or a graduate degree in rhetoric or composition.

English Program Learning Outcomes
A student who graduates with a major in English should be able to:
Critique and interpret English and American literary texts, including those with ethnic, gender, and cultural diversity. Communicate an understanding of rhetorical, composition, or literary theory and integrate that understanding in papers that reflect best practices in English. Employ sophisticated critical thinking, research, discussion, and presentation skills. Demonstrate the skill to engage a text from a spiritual, moral and ethical perspective.
