Economic issues are inherent in our everyday lives. Economics affects us as consumers, employees, producers, investors, manufacturers, carers and much more. As members of a society, we all need to be able to make informed decisions about the optimal allocation of our limited resources.

This course will provide you with a sound understanding of today's complex economic environment. You'll learn about how modern economies operate, the role of prices and markets in allocating resources, how economies trade and grow, and economic modelling.

KEY FEATURES

You'll become proficient in microeconomic and macroeconomic policy with some exposure to financial economics and econometrics, giving you the strong theoretical background required for a successful career in either the public or private sector.

You can tailor this course to your needs and interests by studying traditional areas such as econometrics, finance, trade and development, or units from other areas such as languages, philosophy, politics or sociology.

An emphasis on applied economic skills provided by the study of econometrics will allow you to meet the expectations of major employers, such as commercial and investment banks, economic consultancies, state and federal departments, and the Reserve Bank of Australia.

ACCREDITATION

While there is no formal accrediting body for economics degrees, employers have developed a strong customary expectation about the content and requirements of an economics education. Graduates seeking employment as an economist are expected to have completed at least first and second-year core microeconomic, macroeconomic and econometric units.

IELTS of 6.5 overall with minimum 6.0 in each band, or equivalent.
