Develop the skillset you will need to work with and support children and young people who are experiencing mental health related issues. You will gain a critical and in-depth understanding of mental health and its relationship to children, young people and families within a changing and fluid society.
You will learn via lectures and seminars, and workshops will develop your peer-learning networks. Your modules will explore medical and psychological models of practice and will look at child and adolescent mental health from the position of social intervention. You will learn to draw on key interventions such as social pedagogy, relationship-based practice, playwork and community work as methodologies. Using the social model of mental health and children and family practice, you will contribute and co-produce knowledge in a collaborative, practical and participatory learning environment.
On graduation, you will have a range of transferable skills that are in-demand with employers and your deep understanding of this new area of professional practice and academic learning will prime you to enter contemporary health and social care practice.
You will be taught by dedicated practitioners from Leeds’ Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services who will share their professional experience to enhance your learning.
Your course will be delivered on one dedicated day per week, enabling you to balance your studies with your existing commitments.
