Explore and challenge your scientific thinking in this popular program, which offers one of the broadest selections of science disciplines in Australia.

Our extensive range of specialist fields enables you to develop your interdisciplinary scientific knowledge and practical skills, while pursuing studies that suit your interests and ambitions.

You also have the option to combine your scientific expertise with skills from a broad range of study areas, including languages, communication and design, to broaden your skill set or follow your interests beyond science.

You'll learn how to work confidently in a range of labs, including wet, dry and clinical labs, PC2 and PC3 labs, and animal diagnostic, operating and skills-training labs.

Some majors offer fieldwork opportunities in locations such as the Great Barrier Reef, Fraser Island, national parks and outback Queensland. Plus you'll have the chance to gain relevant, real-world experience through employability and work-integrated learning such as internships, industry placements, research projects and international study.

The Bachelor of Science is a widely respected and globally recognised qualification. You'll graduate with highly developed knowledge in your specialist area, superior technical abilities, and advanced independent thinking and communication skills.

Chemistry

Chemistry is an enabling science that provides a foundation for fields such as medicine, technology and environmental science.

Chemistry encompasses the synthesis and study of molecules and materials, the exploration of their properties and the development of ways to use them in real life.

Learn the fundamentals of general, physical, organic and inorganic chemistry and gain the practical skills to work in a range of different labs.

Apply your foundational knowledge and skills to specialise in synthetic chemistry, nanoscience or computational chemistry.

Undertake an extended major in chemistry to gain advanced level knowledge and technical capabilities, which you can apply to deepen your understanding of nanoscience, medicinal chemistry, computational chemistry or synthetic chemistry.

Studying chemistry will strengthen your problem-solving, analytical and critical thinking capabilities, which are essential skills for future work.

You will be equipped to pursue a diverse range of career opportunities. These include roles as a research scientist, pharmaceutical scientist, laboratory manager, toxicologist, quality-assurance specialist, environmental chemist, forensic chemist, science communicator or teacher.

Alternatively, continue into an honours degree and establish the foundations for a rewarding career in research.

To be offered a place in an undergraduate program, you need to have successfully completed Queensland Year 12, or a qualification equivalent to Queensland Year 12, with the required minimum entry score for the program you're interested in studying. English Language Scores: IELTS: Overall Band Score of 6.5 AND a minimum score of 6 in each sub-band of Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening; TOEFL (Internet-Based-iBT): Overall score 87 with a Writing score of 21 and Reading, Speaking and Listening scores of 19; TOEFL (Paper-based): Overall score of 570 and a minimum score of 5.0 in the Test of Written English (TWE) and 54 in Listening and Reading; PTE: Overall score of 64 with 60 in each communicative skills section; CAE/CPE: Overall Cambridge English Scale (CES) score of 176 with a minimum score of 169 in each skill; BE: A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all four macro skills.
