Our extensive range of specialist fields enables you to develop your interdisciplinary scientific knowledge and practical skills, while pursuing studies that suit your interests and ambitions.

You also have the option to combine your scientific expertise with skills from a broad range of study areas, including languages, communication and design, to broaden your skill set or follow your interests beyond science.

You'll learn how to work confidently in a range of labs, including wet, dry and clinical labs, PC2 and PC3 labs, and animal diagnostic, operating and skills-training labs.

Some majors offer fieldwork opportunities in locations such as the Great Barrier Reef, Fraser Island, national parks and outback Queensland. Plus you'll have the chance to gain relevant, real-world experience through employability and work-integrated learning such as internships, industry placements, research projects and international study.

The Bachelor of Science is a widely respected and globally recognised qualification. You'll graduate with highly developed knowledge in your specialist area, superior technical abilities, and advanced independent thinking and communication skills.

Ecology and Conservation Biology

Ecology and conservation biology are vital for solving the environmental challenges our society is facing today.

You’ll be taught by internationally renowned conservation experts and can choose to specialise in conservation biology, marine ecology or evolutionary ecology. Gain real-world experience in solving ecological problems by conducting fieldwork in a range of rainforest, outback and marine environments.

You’ll be equipped to tackle global issues such as biodiversity loss, climate change, diminishing natural resources and the environmental impacts of human activity. Employment demand has risen strongly over the past 5 years with roles available in government departments and agencies, private industry and environmental organisations.

To be offered a place in an undergraduate program, you need to have successfully completed Queensland Year 12, or a qualification equivalent to Queensland Year 12, with the required minimum entry score for the program you're interested in studying. English Language Scores: IELTS: Overall Band Score of 6.5 AND a minimum score of 6 in each sub-band of Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening; TOEFL (Internet-Based-iBT): Overall score 87 with a Writing score of 21 and Reading, Speaking and Listening scores of 19; TOEFL (Paper-based): Overall score of 570 and a minimum score of 5.0 in the Test of Written English (TWE) and 54 in Listening and Reading; PTE: Overall score of 64 with 60 in each communicative skills section; CAE/CPE: Overall Cambridge English Scale (CES) score of 176 with a minimum score of 169 in each skill; BE: A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all four macro skills.
