Equip yourself for a wide range of careers with a focused background in economic theories and principles, and the in-depth knowledge of a mathematics degree with this dual degree.

This dual degree combines core economic skills and an understanding of how economics shapes areas such as public policy, business and industry, with mathematics analytical and quantitative abilities in a single four-year program.

In the Bachelor of Economics component, you can choose to study business, environmental and resource economics, economic policy, econometrics, financial markets, labour and health economics, international trade and development, macroeconomics and microeconomics.

Modern computation, advances in scientific technology and the increasing production of data have all increased the scope for applications of mathematics. In the Bachelor of Mathematics, you'll develop either a comprehensive knowledge in a single field of mathematics, or a high level of sophistication in the applications of mathematics.

Graduates with high-level quantitative and analytic skills, augmented with comprehensive economics training, play a key role at the forefront of new developments in fields from engineering and the physical sciences to economics, information technology, molecular biology, accounting, business information systems and finance.

Applied Mathematics

Did you know that mathematical modelling is used to create disease models that enable scientists to better understand infectious diseases?

Study applied mathematics and learn how advanced mathematical methods are used to develop practical solutions in a variety of real-world contexts.

Build your foundational knowledge in core topics such as applied mathematical analysis, mathematical modelling and the numerical methods used in computer programming.

You'll develop your critical thinking skills and learn advanced mathematical techniques for approaching problems in a logical, analytical and creative manner.

You'll then have the opportunity to apply your expertise in areas of interest such as natural resources mathematics, or operations research and mathematical planning.

With practical experience gained through work placements, you'll be prepared for a diverse range of career opportunities in sectors such as financial services, engineering, technology and sciences.

To be offered a place in an undergraduate program, you need to have successfully completed Queensland Year 12, or a qualification equivalent to Queensland Year 12, with the required minimum entry score for the program you're interested in studying. English Language Scores: IELTS: Overall Band Score of 6.5 AND a minimum score of 6 in each sub-band of Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening; TOEFL (Internet-Based-iBT): Overall score 87 with a Writing score of 21 and Reading, Speaking and Listening scores of 19; TOEFL (Paper-based): Overall score of 570 and a minimum score of 5.0 in the Test of Written English (TWE) and 54 in Listening and Reading; PTE: Overall score of 64 with 60 in each communicative skills section; CAE/CPE: Overall Cambridge English Scale (CES) score of 176 with a minimum score of 169 in each skill; BE: A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all four macro skills.
