专业概况

在这里学什么？

The Individualized Studies Program (ISP) is designed to assist undergraduates whose educational and/or career goals can’t be satisfied by existing programs of study.

ISP fulfills major and minor requirements for graduation. However, ISP students must still meet all other University requirements for graduation, including General Education Program, Writing Intensive, and credit hour requirements.

Students who graduate after completing an ISP receive the Bachelor of General Studies degree.

Each ISP student works with an ISP coordinator to create his/her program. For a student’s program to satisfy University requirements, it must consist of at least 60 credit hours of coursework. In addition:

1. Coursework must be organized into three distinct, clearly defined areas of interest, with at least 20 credits per area. An interest area may include courses from one or several departments, provided the courses are consistent with the area’s focus.

2. Coursework must include at least 15 hours of 300/400 level courses taken at EMU, including a designated Writing Intensive course. Upper-level courses must be distributed over all three interest areas. Graduate level courses may be used to satisfy this requirement, subject to Graduate School approval. ESLN courses may not be used to fulfill this requirement.

3. If a draft ISP includes courses with enrollment restricted by academic departments or colleges, department or college approval may be necessary. Courses must be excluded from a program if a student does not receive permission to take them. If you’d like to learn more about ISP, you should meet with an ISP coordinator in the University Advising and Career Development Center. Once you and your coordinator have drafted your ISP, it will be sent to the Director of Academic Advising and Career Planning for preliminary approval. If your ISP requires any revisions after it receives preliminary approval, your coordinator will assist you with them. Soon before you complete coursework for your ISP, you and your coordinator will submit a final draft to the Director. The final, approved ISP will then be forwarded to the Records Office for review with your graduation audit.
