Southern Utah University offers a bachelor of the arts in French, a B.A. in French teaching and a French minor. The program has tutors and other opportunities to help students learn and practice speaking with others. Knowledge of French prepares students to compete in the global economy and enhances career opportunities in many fields. Pairing a French major with a second major (such as art history, political science, English, history, biology, business, or economics) makes students more marketable.

Requirements for Teacher Candidates (5 Credits)

To qualify for the teaching license, students must complete the sequence of professional education courses listed by the Department of Teacher Education and Family Development. (See Secondary Education Licensure.) Students may be recommended for the Utah Basic Professional Licensure within secondary education by earning the bachelor’s degree and satisfactorily completing the major/minor program. Those working toward the major may also select an appropriate minor.

Free Electives (45-47 Credits)

Total elective credit is determined by General Education courses taken, degree type selected, additional credits earned, and any additional math or other prerequisite courses needed. For a bachelor’s degree, students must earn a minimum of 40 upper-division credits (courses numbered 3000-4999). Students may need to select additional upper-division courses not included in their major requirements in order to reach this minimum.
