Hi everyone, I am one of the Oxstand graduates of 2007 from the international program. I went to Australia and studied in 2008 at Monash University. In the eyes of others, I was merely another rich and arrogant kid going overseas to waste time and money in the name of so called “studying abroad.” However, that turned out not to be the case.

 

大家好，我是奥斯翰国际高中2007首届国际课程毕业生Kenneth。高中毕业后我拿到了澳洲莫纳什大学的市场营销专业的录取通知书，成为了世界名校的大学生。在当时的身边人眼里，我可能不过是一个既有钱又傲慢的孩子，以所谓的“出国留学”的名义去国外浪费时间和金钱。但事实并非如此。

                 

In 2008 I landed on new soil, Melbourne, Australia, with limited money - barely enough to pay for food and rent. Every day, I kept forcing myself to go to school despite the extreme cold weather and the long walking distance to catch a free bus. I did not have the luxury of failing even one subject, because my parents imposed a condition that they would not pay my tuition if I did not pass all subjects.

 

2008年，随着飞机缓缓降落在了澳洲的国土上，我全新的学习生活就这样打开了崭新的一页。限于家人对我经济上的管理，我身上的可支配开销只能勉强解决食宿问题。尽管在天气极端寒冷的冬天，我都会每天坚持去上课。为了节约生活开销，我需要步行大约2公里才能赶上一辆免费的公交车前往学校。我甚至没有一个允许自己失败的机会，因为父母对我的期望和要求非常高，若考试无法通过所有的科目，我将面临家人不再承担学费的危机。

 

In addition to the challenge of the academy, I also sought opportunities to reduce the pressure of living expenses. I would not have second thoughts about buying when parents were still my financial supporters. I found a part-time job at a restaurant working as a waiter. I was served by a waiter in China, now serving someone else just to make a living. Certainly,I readily accepted in that environment and I became more humble and independent.

 

除了学业上的挑战外，课余时间我也在寻求机会减少生活开销方面的压力。当父母还是我的经济支持者时，我想我不会再考虑花费金钱在不必要的事物上了。我找了一份兼职工作，去了一家餐馆当服务员。在中国，我曾是享受别人服务的，而如今出国后为了谋生我要主动为别人服务。就在那样的环境中，我欣然接受之余，更学会了谦卑与独立。今日回首，我为自己走过的路感到骄傲。

     

The biggest challenge occurred, which was time management. I figured out that the only way to make more time, in order to work as much as I could, was to study even harder. I made sure that I learnt everything taught in class and did not miss any details, despite having to read all the related materials after work late at night or early during the day. This method proved to be effective until I graduated in 2012 with high scores across all subjects. That was a turning point because of my determination and persistence.

 

对我而言，的挑战莫过于时间管理。我没有选择放弃，我深信自己可以克服。为了能尽可能腾出多些时间去做兼职，我唯一的方法就是更加努力地学习。我必须确保在课堂上学会了所有的课程，并且没有遗漏任何细节。尽管在深夜或白天工作的时候，我必须抽空阅读所有相关的学业资料。当然这种方法被证明是有效的，直到2012年大学毕业时，我的所有科目都如愿取得了非常理想的成绩。这时我明白了具备顽强的毅力可以征服世界上任何一座高峰。

This was an important turning point in my life, which had a great impact on my future. I have really fallen in love with the city I am living in. Therefore I have now decided to stay in Australia permanently, because this city nurtured  me to be a better person. Having the ability to live independently and the responsibility to take care of myself and others is a gift that I have been given despite a path full of obstacles that I had come across all these years.

 

这是我人生的一个重要转折点，对我以后的工作生活产生了很大的影响。我现在已经爱上了我所居住的城市，毕业后我就决定永久留居澳大利亚，感激这个城市磨炼出了一个更好的我。尽管这些年遇到了各种困难和阻碍，但这一切经历使我具备了独立生活的能力以及照顾好自己和他人的责任，这也是留学生涯里给予我的一份格外珍贵的馈赠。
